About the Author
Kimberly Roda began her career in publishing and later became an executive in the technology industry. She graduated from Sweet Briar College with a Bachelor of Arts in English and Creative Writing.
While she has over two decades of nonfiction editing and writing experience under her belt, Kimberly’s true passion has always been writing creative fiction. She is thrilled to have finished her debut novel.
She currently lives in Cary, North Carolina.
The Silenced Voice
I wish you had not reminded me of how,
When I was very little, I liked to sing lullabies
To the two wild rabbits our father caught
In the woodshed behind the house.
While I sang through the new wire
Cage, I could see dark eyes
Roving about madly from the corner,
In search of a possible escape. I never saw
Their pink babies, for they disappeared the
Same morning they were born, leaving only a
Bloodstained nest as proof of their existence.
That day, I stopped singing to the
Rabbits, and opened the door to their cage.
